How we operate

At Valtra we develop, manufacture and market superior quality machinery, and we provide added value to our customers' operations through tailor-made services and solutions. Our guiding principle is the continuous improvement of both our products and operations combined with great emphasis on preserving the environment and respecting the health and safety of our employees and customers.

Our values

Our values are the foundation of Valtra. They form the basis for our decisions and they guide our relationship with customers, suppliers, distributors, our parent company, our community and each other. Our five core values are team play, openness, reliability, own initiative and respect.

Team play
Our organisation is based on teamwork. Best results are achieved if the responsibility and honour of doing quality work is given to expert individuals, who work together with their colleagues towards common goals.

Openness
Good team play is only possible in an open and creative environment. Openness means that we can make optimal use of information, also unpleasant news, without delay. Openness encourages constructive evaluation among team members and helps us improve continuously.

Reliability
Reliability to us also means honesty and loyalty. We only make promises we can keep, and we make what we promise. This is how we ensure that our products are durable and of high quality, and our service is fast and reliable.

Own initiative
Valtra's team members are individuals, who have the authority to work independently. We encourage creative initiative and innovation.

At Valtra we act respectfully towards others and treamt everybody like we would like to be treated ourselves. We accept differences and value different cultures.

Valtra

Preserving the environment

True to the Nordic tradition, Valtra puts great emphasis on the protection of the environment and our natural habitats. From production facilities to the development of new product features – we proactively seek ways to increase our environmental friendliness

Examples of how Valtra operations protect the environment

  • The ISO 14001 environmental certification was granted to Valtra already in 2000. Environmental regulations have not been a burden to Valtra; instead we have been happy to comply with them.
  • We make considerable investments to improve our ecofriendliness. Recent investments include green heat energy produced from burning waste wood and an air cleaning unit that burns solvent steam from the chassis painting unit.
  • We put great emphasis preserving natural resources by reducing waste and recycling. Factory waste is sorted into 26 different groups and there have been successful initiatives to reduce printouts and do away with disposable tableware.

How Valtra features protect the environment
Efficient and economical operations are usually also environmentally friendly. Valtra's innovations and unique product features help our customers operate efficiently and in an ecofriendly way. Here are just some examples:

  • EcoPower engines, EcoSpeed transmissions and lightweight structures increase the tractors' efficiency.
  • The possibility of using biodiesel and low engine idle speeds help preserving natural resources.
  • Automatic steering limits overlap and underlap, which in turn reduces the amount of driving overall.
  • The TwinTrac reverse drive system allows the tractor to be used in more ways, which reduces the need to manufacture or purchase redundant machinery.

AGCO Future Farm

It remains our mission to be the driving force in the development of progressive technologies that increase production and foster sustainable practices.
There is no better example of this than the AGCO Future Farm in Africa – a leading-edge practical facility designed to accommodate both small, medium and large scale commercial farmers as well as AGCO Dealers and Distributors.
The AGCO Future Farm’s vision is to develop a sustainable food production system that is able to increase farm output by utilizing agricultural resources more efficiently. Recognizing Africa’s tremendous growth potential in agriculture. The AGCO Future Farm has already planted firm roots in Zambia and is a Key component of AGCO’s commitment to being Africa’s partner for development.

AGCO Future Farm will help to:

• Educate and train farmers, dealers and distributors on integrated agricultural solutions
• Provide hands-on experience with new technology appropriate to local markets
• Establish new agricultural standards for crop establishment, nutrition and protection
• Build state of the art mechanized solutions to farming problems
• Support professional farmers to feed the world

What started as a vision a few short years ago is now alive with the opening of AGCO’s first AGCO Future Farm in Zambia. Through brand new facilities, including a state of the art mechanization centre and a rain and poultry learning centre, AGCO Future Farm has already started educating and training farmers on cutting edge agricultural technology and modern agricultural practices.

Current phase one of the project includes:

• Crop establishment methods
• Mechanizing emerging farmers
• Controlled Traffic Farming

In the coming years, we’ll continue to impact and empower farmers in Africa by rolling out new initiatives as well as seeking opportunities to develop other projects with selected partners.

Our history

Valtra has manufactured tractors since 1951, but the company’s roots date back to the 19th century. Today’s Valtra tractors represent the culmination of two traditions: Finland’s Valmet and Sweden’s Volvo BM, itself an offshoot from the Eskilstuna Mekaniska Werkstad founded by Theofron Munktell in 1832.

Since its early days, Valmet has undergone huge change and development; not just in its name changes from Valmet and ValtraValmet to Valtra, but also in innovation of products and services.
